Legal Manager
Up to £61,425 per year
Option for five-days-in-four condensed week
This is a senior legal leadership role for an experienced Local Authority lawyer who enjoys managing people, advising at a high level and helping services make sound, defensible decisions.
You will lead a small in-house legal team delivering advice across a broad range of council activity.
The role suits someone who is already supervising or managing lawyers, whether in a contentious or non-contentious setting, and who is open to taking on oversight of Land Charges and Information Governance as part of a wider management brief.
The emphasis here is on legal leadership, judgement and the ability to run a service. Support and development will be available around Information Governance where needed. You will:
* Lead and develop a compact legal team, setting direction, priorities and standards
* Provide clear, practical legal advice to senior officers and services across the council
* Support the Monitoring Officer on governance, risk and decision-making
* Oversee the delivery of Land Charges and Information Governance functions, with specialist officers in post
* Manage workloads, budgets and the commissioning of external legal support where appropriate
You will have overall responsibility for a team of seven, including Senior Legal Officers, Paralegals and specialist officers covering Land Charges and Information Governance.
You will be:
* A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX
* An experienced Local Authority lawyer with a strong public sector background
* Confident leading and supervising lawyers and legal support staff
* Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and elected members
* Open to developing your oversight of Information Governance and Land Charges as part of a broader role
