Job summary: We are seeking an experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) to join our Minor Injury Unit (MIU). This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled practitioner to join our nurse-led team. As a band 7 ENP in the MIU, you will be a key member of the clinical team, delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care. You will utilise advanced clinical decision-making and prescribing skills (PGD) to manage patients independently, while working closely with colleagues across urgent and emergency care pathways. You will provide visible leadership, supporting junior staff, students and colleagues in developing their practice.
The MIU delivers urgent care closer to home for our local community, with presentations ranging from musculoskeletal injuries and wounds to minor head injuries, burns, simple fractures and eye problems. Responsibilities
* Provide autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients attending the MIU with minor injuries.
* Order and interpret investigations (e.g., X-rays) and prescribe safely using PGD or other authority.
* Deliver evidence-based care, including wound care, musculoskeletal assessment, plastering and suturing.
* Provide safe discharge planning, safety netting and referral where necessary.
* Act as a clinical leader within the MIU, supervising junior staff, students, and MDT members.
* Contribute to audit, service development, and quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.

Essential qualifications and experience
* Registered Nurse with NMC registration or equivalent; Post-registration in Minor Injuries and/or Minor Illness.
* Significant post-registration experience in Emergency/Urgent Care/MIU/Primary Care.
* Experience in autonomous decision-making and supervising junior staff or students.
* Non-medical prescribing (PGD) or independent prescribing; awareness of PGD guidance; willingness to undertake non-medical prescribing course if not already held.
* Teaching/mentorship qualifications or willingness to undertake.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, governance, risk management, and IT systems (EPRO, electronic patient records).
Desirable qualifications and skills
* Independent/non-medical prescriber (V300).
* Leadership or management experience in urgent/emergency care; research or guideline development experience.
* Infection control and radiography knowledge (IRMER/CALRAD) where applicable.
* Manchester Triage Training and Minor Illness management qualification.
Knowledge and abilities
* Advanced assessment, history-taking, and diagnostic reasoning.
* Clinical decision-making and safe prescribing; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and manage competing demands.
* Safeguarding, governance, risk management knowledge; IT literacy; ability to use electronic patient records.
* Clinical credibility and commitment to continuous professional development.
