Overview
Cygnet Hospital Stevenage offers a range of secure, PICU and acute mental health services for men and women in a purpose-built therapeutic environment where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery. We are currently recruiting for a full time Maintenance Assistant to join our team to carry out a range of day-to-day maintenance tasks in order to ensure the hospital is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order. Responsibilities
* Undertake day-to-day maintenance and planned remedial works to keep building, plant, and services in working order, keeping records of call-outs and routine checks as directed.
* Carry out a range of tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting & general building work.
* Ensure all equipment used is clean and well maintained.
* Comply with safe working practices and report faulty equipment and potential hazards.
* Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices and fire emergency lights.
* Test and record all portable appliances as specified in Group procedures.
* Will be required to be on call once in every 5 weeks but only for emergencies (fire, flood, etc.).
Qualifications
* No specific qualifications required; applicants should have a general background of maintenance work (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating).
* Previous experience working within a team and on your own in a maintenance/building contractors role.
* Experience in repairing various equipment and materials, painting, decorating, plumbing, carpentry and basic wiring work.
* Preferably hold a City & Guilds qualification or equivalent in Carpentry or Plumbing.
* A working knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
* A good practical knowledge in basic plumbing would be an advantage.
