Role context
The role of Head of Product Segment Finance, CMB UK has a single reporting line to the Chief Financial Officer for Commercial Banking (CMB) UK. The role holder, together with another peer in the team will focus on partnering with the UK CMB Executive team leaders within HSBC UK (the ringfenced bank) to grow the business competitively whilst delivering sustainable target returns. The role holder will also partner with colleagues in the rest of the Finance department as well as Wholesale Risk and Infrastructure support as needed to support the targeted business outcomes. The positions will have up to 5 team members at any time and also works with colleagues in the Fin Ops team based in India that support the reporting and analysis landscape. The role holder will be one of the key leaders in the broader department and it is expected of leaders at this level that they participate in broader leadership responsibilities beyond their immediate team. A regular meeting of leaders in this community is held to drive key topics forward and the leaders’ network outside of these events to drive the department forward.
The role holder will ensure that the forecast for CMB financials is robust and a good basis of dialogue with business and finance leaders of the future performance and key decisions, built on a product by product financial modelling of customer segments; insightful analytical story-telling of historic product performance; work collaboratively with the business on its pricing framework, ensuring planned returns are deliverable; and support a platform for identification and communication of opportunities to improve returns and optimise outcomes. This will applied to p&l, loans and deposits, and Risk Weighted Assets.

3. Firm Decision-making underpinned by commercial awareness. Making data-informed decisions that appreciate the risks and opportunities; align to the organisational goals; are relevant and meaningful in the commercial context of the business; are future proof; communicate well the basis of decisions; and take ownership of the decisions and a vested interest in their outcomes.
4. Financial Modelling & Storytelling. Establish with the team of business partner analysts the most appropriate financial model techniques to be used, and ensure a sound control environment and be attentive to detail; apply Analytical Thinking to identify patterns and relationships and causes, evaluate information objectively, and evaluate outputs to ensure they are commercially viable; ensure models have commercial applications answering the ‘so what?’ of the output; and create and communicate impactful financial storytelling.
5. Inspire, direct, coach, and performance manage a team. Create an environment in the team that inspires them towards a common purpose; be clear in communication on the priorities, where needed to re-prioritise team focus and workload, manage time and deadlines effectively, re-balancing work allocation and re-set stakeholder expectations accordingly; and create a sustainably high performing team by coaching and managing performance to raise capabilities whilst ensuring a sustainably healthy environment for our people to succeed.
