Salary: B1 £25,185 - £25,989 pro rata + shift allowance & weekend enhancements
Hours: 35.25 hours

About you
As a CCTV Operator you will:

1. Monitor public space CCTV
2. Record and log incidents observed on CCTV
3. Operate the Councils City Centre Vehicle Access Scheme
4. Monitor alarm activations and deploy Officers to attend alarms
5. Engage with Police and other partners to prevent and detect crime

About the role

You will work in a 24/7, 7 day a week control room, working 4 days on and 4 days off, alternating between sets of day and night shifts. Working on CCTV, the City Centre Vehicle Access Scheme and intruder/fire monitoring alarm receiving centre, you will understand and deliver services within the agreed performance standards, whilst maintaining professional standards, always providing the best value.

Job Description

Job purpose

11. To ensure a responsive, professional service is provided to customers and partners at all times to support crime reduction, in line with the Safer Leeds Plan.
12. You will work as part of a team of operators who are responsible for the day to day monitoring and operation of CCTV cameras and associated equipment. You will support the Police and other agencies and will initiate investigations into suspicious behaviour by evaluating camera images and monitoring radio systems in order to assist in the effective deployment of Police resources
13. You will monitor, Intruder, Fire, Panic and Third Party Alarms from the Alarm Response Centre.
14. You will be required to carry out your duties in accordance with CCTV operational procedures, codes of practice and relevant legislation to ensure the security, integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of information. You will produce and maintain detailed records and evidential material in a clear and accurate format.

Responsibilities

15. Monitoring and recording CCTV camera video images to identify incidents, including crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour, and taking appropriate action including evidence gathering.
16. Working closely with the Police and other agencies to provide an appropriate response to incidents using a range of communication tools e.g., Radios, telephone, intercom
17. Producing and maintaining detailed records and evidential material in a clear and accurate format which may be used in Court.
18. Attend Court if required to give evidence.
19. Check equipment is functioning correctly and reporting any faults found.
20. Monitoring alarms and deploying Officers to a range of incidents received from the Alarm Receiving Centre
21. Responsible for working to and implementing the agreed policy of the Leedswatch Code of Practice and the CCTV Strategy
22. Responsible for ensuring that people, vehicles and buildings within the operational areas are effectively monitored and recorded in locations covered by CCTV ensuring that strict confidentiality is maintained.
23. To use own initiative and judgement where appropriate, providing outcomes and solutions for customers/partners from a range of options.
24. Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.
25. Participate in appraisal, training, and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge and skills.
26. Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and appropriate continuing professional development programmes.
27. Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
28. Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.
29. Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g., child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
30. Be aware of and support difference and ensure equality for all working in an anti-discriminatory manner, upholding, and promoting the values, standards, and equality & diversity policies of Leeds City Council.
31. Recognise and appropriately challenge any incidents of racism, bullying, harassment, victimisation, and any form of abuse of equal opportunities, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

40. Able to evaluate incidents and make instantaneous decisions on required action

Knowledge required

Experience required

45. Of maintaining equipment, stationery and clothing.
