Digital Learning Designer / Developer
Location: Reading (Hybrid - 3 days per week on site)
Rate: £450 per day (Umbrella)
Contract: ASAP start - until 31 May 2027
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Digital Learning Designer / Developer to join a global Digital Learning Development (DLD) function on a long‑term contract. The successful candidate will be directly responsible for the design, development, and delivery of high‑quality digital learning assets supporting global Pharmaceutical, Quality, and Commercialisation learning academies.
Digital Learning Development is a multi‑disciplinary team delivering scalable, high‑impact digital learning solutions to a global audience. This role plays a critical part in supporting operational qualification training, compliance, risk management, and capability development within a highly regulated environment.
Scope
1. Global remit supporting learning academies across Pharmaceutical R&D, Quality Management Systems, and Global Commercialisation
2. Learning solutions delivered across 50+ countries, reaching 10,000+ users
3. Digital learning outputs are integral to operational readiness, licensing, compliance, and performance improvement
Key Responsibilities
Digital Learning Design & Delivery
4. Lead the instructional design framework, independently delivering projects or coordinating specialist resources across:
5. Technical programming and coding
6. Art direction and multimedia design
7. Testing and quality assurance
8. Design and develop digital learning and communication assets across complex scientific, technical, and compliance‑driven subject areas.
Instructional Design & Innovation
9. Act as a subject‑matter expert and digital learning design consultant, applying modern learning strategies and advanced instructional design methodologies.
10. Select and deploy appropriate authoring technologies to balance cost efficiency, learner engagement, innovation, and scalability.
11. Play a key role or co‑lead global learning event development teams and contribute to the wider learning community.
Content Development Oversight & Quality Assurance
12. Lead storyboard design and oversee all build, programming, and art‑direction activities.
13. Ensure rigorous quality control and user acceptance testing of all digital learning solutions.
14. Ensure all deliverables meet:
15. Technical standards
16. SCORM / AICC compliance
17. Code consistency
18. Brand and accessibility requirements
19. Oversee outputs from internal developers, external vendors, and functional contributors.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
20. Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, or a related discipline, with:
21. 5+ years' experience in a senior digital learning / e‑learning role
22. Or a lower‑level qualification supplemented by 8+ years' relevant experience with demonstrable career progression
23. Strong portfolio evidencing innovative, interactive digital learning and communications.
24. Advanced proficiency in digital authoring and creative design tools, including:
25. HTML5
26. Adobe Creative Suite (including Audition & After Effects)
27. Articulate 360, Rise, gomo, Captivate
28. Synthesia or comparable platforms
29. Practical application of AI tools and workplace AI learning technologies is a strong advantage.
30. Expert understanding of adult learning theory and pedagogy, applied within digital instructional design.
31. Highly self‑motivated, creative, and solution‑oriented.
32. Exceptional attention to detail with strong organisational and time‑management skills.
33. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
34. Fluency in English is essential.
