Belonging Through Time - YMCA Norfolk at 170, is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will deliver a 2-year project to uncover, preserve, share and celebrate 170 years of YMCA Norfolk’s social history across the county. We’re now looking for a Heritage Engagement Support Officer to join us on this exciting journey, supporting the delivery of a dynamic, community-led project that will uncover, preserve, and share YMCA Norfolk’s story for generations to come. About the role This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in heritage, community engagement, and creative project delivery. Working closely with the Heritage Engagement Officer, you’ll play a key role in bringing the project to life—supporting activities, events and digital outputs, and working directly with children, young people and communities across Norfolk. You’ll help create a wide range of outputs, including: Community exhibitions and events Podcasts and video storytelling A 170-year YMCA Norfolk history book Heritage activities, workshops and walks Educational resources for schools Most importantly, you’ll support young people, especially those who are vulnerable or hard to reach, to share their experiences and shape the project. What you'll be doing Supporting the planning and delivery of workshops, events and heritage activities Helping communities and young people co-create exhibitions and storytelling projects Assisting with podcasts, video content and digital archives Supporting the organisation and delivery of anniversary celebrations Helping prepare, install and take down exhibitions across Norfolk Providing practical and emotional support to participants Promoting activities through social media and community networks Supporting monitoring, evaluation and reporting for the project You’ll be right at the heart of a project that blends history, creativity and social impact About you We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, organised and people-focused—someone who wants to make a difference while building valuable skills. You’ll bring: Great communication and interpersonal skills Strong organisational skills and attention to detail A positive, flexible approach to teamwork Confidence working with a wide range of people, including young people A genuine interest in heritage, storytelling or community work Previous experience in heritage or community projects is helpful, but not essential. If you’re motivated, curious and ready to learn, we’ll support you to develop.
