Overall Purpose of the Role As a Social Worker within the Support and Safeguarding Team, you will deliver high-quality social work services to children, young people and their families. You will ensure childrens welfare is safeguarded and that they are protected in line with statutory and legal responsibilities, working at a level appropriate to a professionally qualified practitioner. Principal Responsibilities Undertake Initial, Core and specialist assessments in line with national guidelines and statutory timescales to inform support planning. Formulate, coordinate and review support plans, or refer cases to the appropriate service areas as required. Manage a caseload of varying complexity, organising packages of support and assessing levels of risk to childrens health and wellbeing. Work directly with children, young people and families, providing advice, guidance and intervention to promote participation, independence and self-sufficiency. Monitor and review cases regularly, adjusting interventions in response to changing needs and risks. Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive records and reports in line with legislative and organisational requirements, ensuring suitability for audit, court proceedings and other lawful purposes. Implement court-directed actions to safeguard children, including emergency interventions where necessary, and coordinate with partner agencies to ensure effective multi-agency working. Demonstrate a clear understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, and respond appropriately to behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs. Essential Criteria Recognised Social Work qualification (CQSW, CSS, DipSW, or Home Office Letter of Recognition). Evidence of post-qualifying learning and development (PQ Award or equivalent). Registration with Social Work England. Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act and Human Rights legislation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and maintain accurate records using IT systems such as Word and Excel. Knowledge and application of appropriate assessment tools, research and evidence-based practice. Clear understanding of Health and Safety requirements and willingness to undertake relevant training, applying procedures effectively with both service users and colleagues.
