The Electronics Engineer within Digital Surgery’s Innovation team is responsible for designing, testing, integrating and implementing electronic printed circuit board (PCB) solutions for custom computing devices, medical devices and surgical robotics. The Electronics Engineer is part of the team delivering novel concepts and products for the operating room and collaborates, as an electronics expert, with a cross-functional engineering team including mechanical, design, embedded/ application software, and research experts.
A Day in the Life
The Electronics Engineer is responsible for:
1. Analog and digital circuit design, symbols and footprints creation, schematic and PCB layout design.
2. Hardware bring-up, test and debug, and integrating designs into electromechanical systems.
3. Engineering duties include component selection, analysis and specification, circuit review, layout review and general debugging.
4. Develop, test, and evaluate prototypes to aid in the determination of future product release content.
5. Write detailed electronic design documentation.
6. Support Electromagnetic compatibility and electromagnetic interference (EMI/EMC) compliance tests and regulatory documentation
Must Haves
7. Expertise with proven experience from simple to complex circuit design and multi-layer high-speed PCB design with impedance control
8. Experience in designing with fundamental electronic elements such as transistors, op-amps, inductors etc.
9. Experience in defining electrical architectures and interfaces driven by test and simulation analysis and results
10. Experience in various digital bus architectures and interfaces such as Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C), USB, universal asynchronous receiver / transmitter (UART), peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) and Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)
11. Knowledge in power circuitry fundamentals, Low Dropout (LDOs), Direct Current to Direct Current (DC-DC) converters, power analysis
12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to Haves
13. Experience in medical devices, avionics, defense or other regulated business
14. Experience with Altium Designer
15. Good soldering skills, ideally 0402, Quad Flat No-Lead package (QFN) and similar packages
16. Knowledge of Signal and Power Integrity Analysis
