Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full Time, Permanent
Northampton
Salary: £25,992–£27,711 FTE (pro rata for hours worked)
Hours: 30.5 per week, term time only (39 weeks/year, including ½-hour planning session)
Start date: September 2025 – Permanent
The School and Role
A primary school in Northampton with a specialist SEMH resource base is looking for a dedicated Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to support vulnerable pupils. You will work within the nurture provision, helping children rebuild emotional resilience, learn social skills, and transition back into mainstream classes. This supportive team delivers 1:1 and small-group interventions in a caring, structured environment.
Requirements
Applicants must have the right qualifications and proven UK school experience to be considered.
1. Experience working with children and young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour
2. Strong relationship-building skills and empathy
3. Ability to deliver therapeutic, behaviour-focused support and facilitate transitions
4. Excellent communication and teamwork capability
5. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
