This opportunity to work and train within the specialist field of Rehabilitation Medicine is available from 6th August 2025 for 12 months. Rehabilitation Medicine physicians provide interventions to patients with complex disabling conditions, focusing on optimising recovery following severe injuries and improving function, thus facilitating participation in society for all individuals. This includes working with colleagues in multiple acute specialities, with inpatient rehabilitation medicine patients and outpatient/community work. The 40 hour post, with oncall commitment weekend day shifts only (banded 1b) is for up to 12 months, and available whilst the substantive NTN post holder undertakes a period of training out of programme.
The Rehabilitation Medicine inpatient service is currently based at Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh, but there are ongoing plans to move this bed base to East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington, as early as September 2025. The inpatient service comprises Neurological Rehabilitation (with close links to the Neurobehavioural unit based In the Robert Ferguson Unit, Royal Edinburgh Hospital), Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Amputee Rehabilitation, all with close links to acute teams, including the major trauma team, in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The Rehabilitation Medicine service also provides comprehensive outpatient services across multiple rehabilitation medicine subspecialties, and a community rehabilitation service.
