We are a large family looking for a couple to come and live in our lovely 2 bed cottage, with half an acre of garden of garden and help us with gardening, driving, general maintenance, both inside and outside, basic handyman jobs as well as general housekeeping. To start at the beginning of November. About us: We are three generations of a family all living in the same village with dogs (labradors), horses, ducks and children aged 6-16. We lead busy lives and love being outdoors, riding, walking the dogs and we need another pair of hands. We are relaxed and friendly and the couple who previously held this job were with us for 12 years. About the job: This job would ideally suit a couple who would enjoy living in charming cottage in a sought-after Chiltern village, and would like getting stuck into relaxed, informal family life. The jobs and their salaries are flexible, and would depend on skills and availability. At the minimum we would require: Housekeeping – 4 hours, three times per week – but this could be happily increased as needed. We are looking for someone who is tidy, organised, someone who likes sorting drawers etc, a self-starter who has good ideas, is bright, cheerful, energetic and friendly. We need someone who is not phased by the mud of an outdoorsy family or lots of dog hair. Groundsman / Gardener – 4 full days per week but this could be increased to 5 days per week. We are looking for someone who is either skilled in looking after fields, gardens or a fast and willing learner, someone with common sense and an eye for what needs to be done or how things could be improved. Basic handyman skills are essential – the ability to fix a plug, a fuse, a gutter, someone with a full clean driving licence who can drive for us when needed, would be happy to drive a 3.5t horsebox, fix fences, clean water troughs, look after and maintain fields. We would require gardening, pruning hedges, simple maintenance of a swimming pool, driving, errands, basic handyman skills. We have a handful of horses so a bonus would be confidence around horses with potential riding opportunities, driving children to pony club rallies, bringing horses in for farrier etc, clipping, plaiting, simple yard maintenance (horses all live out). We would require willingness to look after our dogs in the cottage on occasional weekends, days or overnights, holidays when required. We would prefer non-smokers and could provide a car if needed. We are looking for a people who have a can-do positive attitude, who enjoy being around and caring for animals (horses, dogs, ducks) and would enjoy the job described above. About the accommodation: The cottage is a lovely 2 bed cottage (see pictures), recently renovated to a high standard, sitting in its own half acre garden with fruit trees, roses and vines in a pretty Chiltern village with a strong community. The ground floor is open plan with a well-appointed modern kitchen, dining area and living area with wood-burning stove. There is also a hall, downstairs bathroom a utility room (with washing machine and tumble dryer). Upstairs is a large master bedroom with super king bed, another smaller twin bedroom and a good sized bathroom with bath and shower. There are beautiful views over the Chilterns to the west, a mature private garden with outdoor seating area and BBQ. There is super fast fibre broadband and air source heating. Well behaved pets would be welcome and we could even consider accommodating a horse. Ultimately we’re looking for the right people who would enjoy a long-term job supporting a family and their animals.
