About the Service
We are recruiting on behalf of a 6-bed residential children’s home with on-site education provision based in Handsworth, Birmingham. The service supports children and young people with a range of complex needs, delivering a structured care and education model within a stable residential setting. The focus is on consistency, engagement in learning, and supporting young people to develop emotionally, socially, and behaviourally within a safe and supportive environment. This is a well-structured but complex service where strong leadership and teamwork are essential to maintaining high standards across both care and education.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day leadership of the home. You will play a key role in ensuring operational consistency, staff development, safeguarding standards, and the effective delivery of care across a larger service. This is a hands-on role where you will be actively involved in both leadership and direct support, helping to maintain structure and stability within a busy environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Registered Manager in the overall running of the home
* Lead shifts and provide clear direction to a larger staff team
* Ensure high standards of care, safeguarding, and compliance are maintained
* Support the integration of care and education within the service
* Oversee care planning and ensure individual needs are met effectively
* Supervise, mentor, and develop residential care staff
* Assist with rota management, staffing, and operational planning
* Build strong relationships with education staff and external professionals
* Contribute to continuous improvement and service development
About You
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (minimum)
* Significant experience within children’s residential care
* Experience in a senior or supervisory role (Deputy experience desirable)
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and Ofsted requirements
* Experience working in larger homes or education-linked services (preferred)
* Confident leading shifts and managing staff performance
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* Resilient, consistent, and able to manage pressure in a busy setting
