Scope of work:
The Line Cook is responsible for the creation of high quality dishes in his role as part of the kitchen team. He is able to work independently and be self-sufficient.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES [such as, but not limited to]
* Responsible for the day to day running of any given section.
* Ordering on a daily basis, whilst keeping in mind stock usage, menu planning and business levels.
* Cooking consistently and enthusiastically on a high level as directed by the head chef.
* Making sure his/her station and its environment (Kitchen and store rooms) is spotless clean and hygiene is kept up at all times
* Keeping control of his/her responsible station and immediately reports food orders, and maintenance hazards and issues to head chef; and insuring the minimum kitchen wastage.
* Controlling incoming goods, and stores it in safely and good conditions.
* Is guest orientated and able to converse with our clientele.
* To understand and be aware at all times of food costs and percentages and understand how daily departmental costs influence profit and loss results.
* To assist with the provision of training and development for department staff in kitchen procedures.
* To be flexible and willing to help other departments and restaurants at busy times if required.
* Comply with Mayyil Memos, Staff Policy, Food Safety Policy, Safe System of Work and Staff Personal Behaviour.
* Complying with the daily rotas.
Departmental Procedures:
* Having good communication, organisation and leadership skills.
* Demonstrating high level of customer service attitude.
* Working flexibly as when and where directed by the Supervisor/Manager in London.
* Attending all meetings and training session as instructed by Mayyil Management Team.
* Always communicate any problems or issues regardless of the severity to the Supervisor or Manager.
Personal Specifications:
* As a team player, contribute and support the overall success of the kitchen.
* Assist in the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen through positive attitude.
* Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, cleanliness and personal grooming; maintain a smart and presentable image at all times, avoid foul language and abusive behaviour and physical gestures at all times.
* Effectively work under pressure.
* Promote a positive perception of Mayyil both internally and externally at all times.
Important roles to follow (subject to Health and safety improvement)
Following the instructions and the safe systems of work for each task when it's applicable is mandatory
* Chopping and using knife and knife sharpening
* Light up Grills, Shawarma machines, Ovens
* Cleaning machinery (Fryers, mixers, Juicers, etc..)
* Lifting and Handling (Equipment, broken glasses, hot water, Chemicals, etc..)
It's an active Job and in order to perform it you should be in a general Good Health and Physical fit
Health & Safety Obligations:
In accordance with the Health & Safety at work act 1974 and its attendant regulations the individual shall (although not exhaustively):
Read and understand and comply with the companies Health & safety policy
Work in a safe manner not likely to endanger themselves or others
Only work on jobs and machines to which they have been trained and certified to use
Comply with all aspects of the law as relayed to them via training or other communications including procedures such as risk assessments or safe systems of work as applies to their job role
Wear such (Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed do so by their line manager or as may be identified in a safe system of work
Food Safety Obligations:
I accordance with the Food Safety Act 1990 and its attendant regulations the individual shall (although not exhaustively):
Read and understand and comply with the companies Food Hygiene policy
Work in a clean manner not likely to contaminate food stuffs
Comply with all aspects of the law as relayed to them via training or other communications including procedures such as risk assessments as applies to their job role.
Wear such (Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed do so by their line manager or as may be identified in the hygiene policy.

* Ability to smell, taste and feel, in order to determine quality of raw and prepared food products.

* Ability to stand for long periods.
* Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects
* Ability to work within an inside worm and high temperature environment
* May be required to work around loud noise.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Zero hours contract
Pay: £13.50-£14.50 per hour
