Senior Structural Engineer - Subsea Systems / Heavy Mechanical Design Blyth, Hybrid £65,000 - £75,000 basic benefits An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join a leading engineering and technology organisation developing innovative subsea and offshore trenching systems. You'll be assisting with the design of a new trencher & taking ownership of structural and mechanical design projects from concept through to manufacturing working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver robust, safe, and efficient engineered solutions for use in challenging marine environments. Key Responsibilities: - Lead the structural and mechanical design of subsea and offshore equipment, including ROV trenching systems and related components. - Produce detailed engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation (AutoCAD, Inventor, MathCAD). - Carry out FEA and structural analysis (plates, shells, beam theory, STAAD Pro). - Conduct and review FMECA, HAZOP, and safety-by-design assessments. - Perform stress analysis, material selection, and welding/plating design for harsh environments. - Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT) activities. - Collaborate with engineers across electrical, hydraulic, and control disciplines to ensure seamless integration. About You: - Degree-qualified in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. - Proven experience designing structural or mechanical systems for subsea, offshore, or heavy industrial applications. - Strong proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, MathCAD) and FEA tools. - Sound understanding of DNV design codes for lifting appliances and marine operations. - Confident with free-body diagrams, strength of materials, and stress calculations. - Able to check and approve structural calculations and design documentation. - Excellent communicator with strong organisational and teamwork skills. Desirable Experience: - Prior involvement in ROV, trenching tool, or subsea handling system design. - Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanisms, and power transmission systems. - Experience with fabrication, machining, and assembly drawings for welded structures. - Understanding of corrosion protection, hydraulic sealing, and material selection for subsea use.
