We are looking for a Locum Consultant Radiologist for a full‑time post for general radiology with an interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging.
The post will be based at the West Middlesex site, with flexibility to work from the Chelsea & Westminster site for a limited number of sessions per week if required. The successful candidate will participate in the diagnostic on‑call rota covering the West Middlesex (WM) site, with an approximate frequency of 1 in 16 sessions.
The job plan is based on a 4‑day week and includes sessions dedicated to general cross‑sectional and hot CT reporting, requiring the candidate to report body CT and general MRI. Additional sessions will focus on MSK MRI reporting, musculoskeletal ultrasound, US‑guided injections, and optional CT‑guided or US‑guided biopsies. The appointee will also take part in rheumatology, orthopaedic and sarcoma MDTs.
Patient Care Responsibilities
* Provide high quality care to patients in accordance with the GMC Good Medical Practice standards.
* Develop and maintain the competencies required for the post.
* Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programme activities.
* Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.
* Demonstrate, model and encourage Trust values at all times to all patients and staff.
Research, Teaching and Training
* Provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health‑care professions as agreed with the Service Lead.
* Contribute to the training and teaching of medical trainees, medical students, other doctors in training and other staff groups.
* Act as a clinical supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director/Service Lead.
* Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust’s research and audit portfolio, meeting all research governance requirements.
* Maintain mandatory training up to date as per Trust policy.
* Participate fully in continuing professional development, and undertake non‑clinical training and development such as Leadership Training at the discretion of the Trust.
Performance Management
* Work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance.
* Engage in financial management activities, including identification and implementation of cost improvement programmes, and participation in efforts to provide services cost‑effectively.
* Participate in operational efficiency activities such as day‑case rates, waiting‑list activity and demand management.
Medical Staff Management and Accountability
* Adhere to Trust and department guidelines on leave, including requesting and reporting absence, professional and study leave, ensuring staff members under your responsibility also comply.
* Participate in the recruitment and induction of junior medical staff as delegated by the Clinical Director/Service Lead.
* Participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle.
* Participate fully in regular departmental activities, including meetings and team‑building events.
The successful candidate must be registered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or within 6 months of completing CCT, and must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists. The expected start date is within 3 months of interview. Weekend shifts at multiple sites may be required.
