We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Communications Officer / Events Coordinator with experience in event planning, social media content creation, press releases, and digital communications to promote campaigns and events, with proficient English language skills.
The department focuses on waste minimisation, recycling, and sustainability by promoting shared waste services for the local region.
This role is officially known within the organization as a ‘Shared Waste Communication Officer’.
As the Communications Officer / Events Coordinator, you will have experience in creating engaging content for diverse audiences across in-person, print, and social media platforms, demonstrating impact.
This role offers an opportunity for a motivated professional experienced in engaging with schools and using social media to implement dynamic waste and recycling communication plans. Your passion for recycling will help you effectively inform the public and stakeholders.
DUTIES
* Lead development of the shared waste service communications plan, liaising with management and stakeholders, covering social media, press, websites, digital campaigns, and promoting behavioural change.
* Design and maintain promotional and educational materials supporting environmentally sustainable services, waste minimisation, recycling, and reuse.
* Create and deliver educational presentations and promotional activities to encourage proper participation in waste services.
* Organize and attend meetings, workshops, roadshows, and outreach events to foster engagement on climate change, waste, and recycling initiatives.
* Coordinate with Communications Teams to promote participation and respond to media inquiries.
* Develop community links and partnerships to optimize resource use.
* Manage social media presence to engage and influence residents.
* Liaise with service providers, waste producers, collectors, authorities, and community groups involved in recycling and waste operations.
* Respond to public inquiries, providing accurate advice on waste-related matters.
* Maintain baseline data for performance management and benchmarking.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
* Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Interest or experience in environmental services or communications.
* Experience in developing diverse communication materials, including social media and printed materials.
* Experience in responding to customer complaints.
* Confident in fluent English communication.
* Experience in event planning and management.
* DBS clearance (formerly CRB).
* Valid driving license and insured vehicle for business use.
* Willingness to lift, transport, and erect equipment for roadshows.
* Availability for evening and weekend work.
