Overview
Our son is a loving and creative 12-year-old boy who likes to draw and make clay models of his favourite characters. He enjoys beach and woodland walks, swimming, trampolining, and soft play activities. He has some quirks and challenges like many children with ASD, including autism rituals during transitions. He doesn’t like to be rushed, so patience is vital; once his rituals are complete, he is fine to transition.
Responsibilities
* Provide 2 to 1 support alongside another Personal Assistant (PA) for weekend and school holiday activities.
* Assist with day-to-day activities, including participation in walks, swimming, trampolining, and other outdoor and indoor activities that he enjoys.
* Support transitions between activities and locations, with patience and understanding of his routines.
* Encourage safe engagement and observation, particularly where there is limited sense of danger, especially when near roads or in transit.
* Be enthusiastic and genuinely interested in working with children and in enabling him to participate in preferred activities.
* Travel with the family as needed, including driving to activities and ensuring safe transport.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Driving is essential as transport is required; mileage is reimbursed at 0.45p per mile.
* Post subject to satisfactory DBS check and references.
* Permission to work in the UK at the start of employment.
* Respectful, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting a child with ASD and his routines.
