Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs in education? Axcis Education is looking for dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to join our growing team and support pupils in mainstream secondary schools across Stockport and Tameside. Pay Rate: £90.00 – £110.00 per day (dependent on experience/qualification)
Role: Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant
Contract: Flexible – Full-time, Part-time, Day-to-Day, or Long-term positions available
What you’ll be doing
* In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), you will support SEMH needs in pupils across mainstream settings.
* Use evidence-based resources such as the Boxall Profile or Zones of Regulation.
* Help create and review Behaviour Support Plans.
* Support emotional regulation and develop pupils’ social skills.
* Use strategies to de-escalate and manage challenging behaviour.
* Work closely with teachers, SENDCos and external agencies.
* Create a safe, supportive, and structured environment for pupils to thrive.
* Track pupil progress and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
About you
* Have at least 2 years’ experience supporting children with SEMH needs or behaviour that challenges.
* Understand trauma-informed approaches (ACEs) and emotional regulation strategies.
* Have a calm, consistent, and compassionate approach.
* Can build strong relationships and act as a positive role model.
* Have a background in education, youth work, mental health, or social care (preferred but not essential).
Placement and opportunities
You will be placed in inclusive and supportive mainstream secondary schools, with occasional opportunities to work in alternative provisions or specialist SEMH settings.
