Key purpose:
We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and excellent classroom practitioner to teach Drama and English at KS3 and KS4. The successful candidate would be required to teach not only KS4 BTEC Performing Arts Drama but also some KS3 and KS4 English Language and Literature. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and ambitious professional to join us at Oasis Academy Mayfield.
It is essential that the appointed candidate is committed to raising levels of attainment and supporting the whole school focus. A willingness to support with offering extracurricular opportunities is preferred. Applications from newly qualified teachers looking to expand and develop will be considered.
Key responsibilities:
1. To teach the classes allocated, and provide a well-planned, challenging and purposeful learning environment for all students.
2. To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential. To contribute to raising standards of pupil attainment for all pupils.
3. Demonstrate optimistic personal behaviour, positive relationships and attitudes towards students, staff, parents, and members of the local community.
4. To support and develop resources to promote high quality teaching in Drama/English lessons.
5. To undertake specific duties within the Performing Arts/English faculties, as agreed with the relevant Head of Faculty.
6. Sustain wide, current knowledge and understanding of Drama and English teaching locally, nationally, and globally, and pursue continuous professional development.
Teaching:
7. Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students
8. Promote good progress and outcomes by students
9. Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
10. Plan and teach well structured lessons
11. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students
12. Make accurate and productive use of assessment
13. Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
Care and guidance:
14. Undertake responsibility for a tutor group or for any other arrangement for the care and guidance of students as is required by the Academy.
15. Be prepared to undertake responsibility, as required, for the delivery of the PSHCE programme.
16. Promote good attendance and monitor in accordance with the Academy’s attendance policy.
Wider professional responsibilities:
17. Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the Academy
18. Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
19. Deploy support staff effectively
20. Take responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development, responding to advice and feedback from colleagues
21. Communicate effectively with parents with regard to students’ achievements and wellbeing
