Interim Deputy / Assistant Headteacher – Curriculum

Location: Bordon, Hampshire
Contract: Interim, fixed-term until approxiamtely Easter 2026
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (term time plus inset days)

A supportive and inclusive special school in the Hollywater area of Bordon is seeking an Interim Deputy / Assistant Headteacher (Curriculum) to provide strong and effective leadership during a key period of development.

The school supports pupils with a range of complex special educational needs, including severe learning difficulties, autism, communication needs, sensory processing differences, and attachment-related needs. The curriculum is highly personalised, child-centred, and focused on communication, life skills, emotional development, and independence, alongside academic learning appropriate to individual needs.





About the Role

The Interim Deputy / Assistant Headteacher will take a strategic lead on curriculum design, implementation, and impact, ensuring that learning across the school meets the diverse needs of pupils and aligns with statutory requirements and best practice in special education.

Working closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, the postholder will support teaching and learning, provide guidance to staff, and help ensure continuity and stability during the interim period. This role is ideal for an experienced leader with a strong understanding of curriculum development within SEND or inclusive settings.





Key Responsibilities

* Lead on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s curriculum

* Ensure the curriculum meets the needs of pupils with complex SEND and supports progress, wellbeing, and independence

* Support teachers in planning, assessment, and adapting learning for diverse needs

* Monitor the quality of teaching and learning and support professional development

* Work collaboratively with senior leaders, SEN staff, and external professionals

* Contribute to school improvement planning and self-evaluation

* Support consistency of practice and high expectations across the school

* Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and the school’s values at all times





Who the School Is Looking For

The school welcomes applications from leaders who:

* Have senior or middle leadership experience, ideally within SEND or inclusive education

* Possess strong curriculum knowledge and the ability to adapt frameworks for pupils with complex needs

* Are collaborative, reflective, and supportive in their leadership approach

* Can provide stability, clarity, and guidance during an interim period

* Are committed to child-centred, trauma-informed, and inclusive practice

Experience within special schools, alternative provision, or inclusive mainstream settings is highly desirable.
