Technical Project Manager (Design Delivery)
Bath (2 days per week) | Up to £70,000 + package
I’m working with a leading infrastructure delivery partner supporting a major UK water utility as they enter a significant investment programme (AMP8).
They are looking for a Technical Project Manager to help unlock a backlog of schemes currently sitting between design and delivery.
The role
This is not a typical process-driven project management role. You will sit at the centre of multiple schemes, acting as the bridge between engineering design teams, consultants, and delivery partners, ensuring projects move forward with clarity, pace, and technical confidence.
You will not be producing detailed designs yourself, but you must be technically credible enough to challenge them.
If you have experience reviewing engineering outputs and questioning whether something is right or feasible, this is the type of mindset required.
What you will be doing
* Coordinating multiple infrastructure schemes through design into delivery
* Acting as the key interface between consultants, engineers, and delivery teams
* Reviewing designs and challenging assumptions where needed
* Managing risk, cost, and programme scheduling
* Driving progress across projects that are currently delayed or lacking momentum
* Ensuring alignment between technical feasibility and delivery reality
* Bringing structure, organisation, and pace to complex work streams
What they are looking for
This is a targeted hire. They are not looking for a generalist project manager.
* You must have strong project management fundamentals, including experience managing risk, cost, scheduling, and governance.
* You should have experience working on engineering or infrastructure projects
* You need to be comfortable understanding and challenging technical designs
* You should have experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, including consultants, engineers, and contractors
* You must be highly organised, proactive, and able to drive progress independently
* You will stand out if you have
* Experience within utilities, infrastructure, or engineering-led environments
* Exposure to design, feasibility, or early-stage project development
* Experience working on complex, multi-stakeholder programmes
The type of person who succeeds in this role
* Someone who is naturally curious and asks why things are done a certain way
* Someone confident enough to challenge engineers and technical teams
* Someone who can manage multiple moving parts without losing control
* Someone who brings structure to ambiguity and drives progress
* Someone who communicates clearly across both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Why this role
* You will be part of a major UK infrastructure investment programme
* You will work on projects that have real environmental and operational impact
* You will have visibility across complex and meaningful work
* You will be in a role where you influence delivery rather than just track it
