Description
Do you have a City and Guilds Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3, BTEC National Certificate in Vehicle Repair and Technology, or NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Mechanical & Electrical)?
Do you have an MOT Test qualification, or are you interested in developing your skills by obtaining the Level 2 MOT testing certificate?
We are seeking a mechanic to join our Fleet Management Team.
Our team maintains and services a variety of vehicles, including specialist HGV municipal vehicles, vans, and plant equipment such as ride-on grass mowers and leaf blowers at our Depot on Claro Road, Harrogate.
Our Service
We operate a fleet of approximately 850 vehicles across North Yorkshire, including refuse collection vehicles, gritters, road sweepers, minibuses, tippers, cars, and vans. We hold about 200 vehicles on our Goods Operator Licence and 105 minibuses on Transport Act Permits. We collaborate with NY Highways Ltd and other Brierley Group companies, providing maintenance services as needed. North Yorkshire Council has four MOT testing stations where we conduct MOT tests according to Department for Transport (DfT) and DVSA standards.
Ensuring vehicle safety is critical for the safety of employees, passengers, residents, and other road users. It is essential that maintenance is performed effectively and consistently to meet our Operator Licence and Permit commitments.
The Role
As a Mechanic, you will work on a diverse fleet, providing hands-on maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant, and workshop equipment to the required standards. You may need to attend roadside breakdowns and perform repairs off-site within the Harrogate area. You will also conduct MOT tests (once qualified) on our modern test ramps, ensuring all documentation complies with standards.
This role involves working in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should possess good written and basic IT skills, particularly for our diagnostic and electronic systems.
Weekend work is on an ad-hoc basis, with an additional £30 per day on top of your normal salary.
*For the right candidate, a recruitment welcome payment of up to 10% of the starting salary may be payable as a one-off bonus.
What You Will Bring
You should have a good understanding of health and safety in a workshop setting, extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and standards, and significant experience in vehicle repair and diagnostics.
Additionally, you will require:
* City and Guilds Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3, BTEC National Certificate, or NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Mechanical & Electrical)
* Willingness to undertake MOT testing certification for Class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles
* Willingness to undertake training for DVSA-approved qualifications or certifications, and a C1, C1+E, C+E, D1, or D category driving license
