Our client is a top Criminal and Civil Litigation firm based in the city of London. They are looking for an Assistant Solicitor to join the Civil Litigation team working with Chinese clients, fluent Mandarin is essential for this role.

Core Duties will include:
Conduct of matters on behalf of clients. Including:
- Obtaining instructions and advising on course(s) of action, length and cost of case (as appropriate);
- Assessment of client's financial means and explanation of Public Funding or Private terms and conditions;
- Attending police stations, Court and prisons;
Preparing correspondence to client, court, solicitors, counsel and other third parties including statements, notices, applications and other legal forms/documents for production/preparation.
- Undertaking Magistrates Court advocacy (where appropriate).
Instructing Counsel, experts, solicitor advocates or other third parties, reviewing reports and continued liaison as required;
- Preparation of the Defence case for trial;
- Advising on appropriate plea, arranging and conferences;
Obtaining and reviewing evidence and statements;
- Negotiation on clients behalf and, liaison with opponents etc. to obtain most preferable outcome for clients;
- Ensuring efficient day-to-day progress of all matters and prioritizing work as necessary and keeping the client informed on progress.
Appropriately identify and delegate work accordingly
Supervision of fee earning work undertaken by colleagues
Management of support services for which (s)he is responsible, including supervision of own secretary.
Ensure key dates are recorded.
Prepare case plans and projected hours at the outset of all cases and continually review.
Financial control with particular regard to cash flow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures.
Manage the collation of matter start and matter completion data and prepare all claims for costs, referring major matters to costs clerk by agreement with partner with conduct on the case.
Ensure that all cases are conducted in accordance with Law Society guidelines and that the regulations and procedures of the Legal Aid Agency are adhered to in respect of publicly funded matters and the Lexcel quality mark.
Attend departmental meetings and regularly contribute to contents of meeting.
Participation in marketing activities whether on a firm wide, departmental or office basis.
Keep up to date with changes in the law and procedures.
Inform secretary of any courses attended in order that training record can be updated.
Accurately record time on time recording system.
Meet chargeable time and financial targets, as agreed with Partner.
Maintain confidentiality.
Manage own continuing professional development.
Ideal Candidates must have the following:
- Qualified Solicitor
Fluent Mandarin
at least 3/4 years PQE
- Analytical skills
- Good written and oral presentation skills
