Tesco Shift Leader – Days – Urmston Express
Location: Urmston, Manchester, United Kingdom
Pay: Starts from £14.76 an hour; £15.97 inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location.
Guaranteed hours: Minimum 16 hours weekly. Flexible start‑up for 12‑hour availability.
Availability windows (days & times):
* Sunday 13:45 – 23:00
* Monday 14:30 – 23:00
* Tuesday 13:30 – 23:00
* Thursday 13:30 – 23:00
* Friday 14:30 – 23:00
* Saturday 13:30 – 23:00
Responsibilities:
* Work in a fast‑paced retail environment.
* Own duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
* Be available for customers, listening to them and ensuring they leave with what they came for.
* Look for ways to improve service, coaching colleagues and giving feedback.
* Guide and support your colleagues in‑store, ensuring safety for everyone.
* Maintain a deep understanding of store performance and work with the manager to improve operations.
* Lead from the front and set a positive example for colleagues.
* Coordinate the store team for a smooth shopping experience.
* Support colleagues, ensuring they meet daily priorities and take regular breaks.
* Open and close the store, ensuring every decision promotes safety.
* Act as the point person for day‑to‑day queries when the manager is absent.
* Keep the store clean, tidy, and well‑presented.
* Help schedule and coordinate seasonal, community, and charity events.
* Create an inclusive team atmosphere.
* Deliver great customer service by listening and putting customers first.
* Keep the team informed of communications, changes, and updates.
* Stay knowledgeable about store performance and pursue continuous improvement.
* Remove obstacles that hinder excellent service.
* Follow health and safety routines and ensure others do the same.
* Recognise and celebrate exceptional service among colleagues.
Qualifications & Workforce Requirements:
* Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
* Capable of leading independently in the absence of a manager.
* Sound decision making that adapts to change and maintains focus on customers and colleagues.
* Motivational leader who can inspire the team to exceed expectations.
* Curious mind, always seeking improvement opportunities for customers, communities, and the environment.
* 18 years or older (minimum age requirement).
* Competent health & safety knowledge and willingness to enforce it.
