A welcome from the Corporate Director of Children and Young People
Thank you for your interest in joining our Children and Young People’s service. As the new Director for Children and Young People in North Yorkshire, there is significant investment in our children and families service. More capacity. More prevention. Better outcomes. Be part of a service investing in family help and sustainable practice. Across local government, children’s services are facing unprecedented demand and funding constraint. We are expanding our teams to drive changes and support children and families at the earliest opportunity, right time, right person. We are creating new and additional capacity across children’s social care, which will become Family help and our Multi agency child protections teams. We are growing our teams because we believe safe, effective and relationship based practice relies on practitioners having time, support and professional space to do their best work with children.

About The Role
North Yorkshire Council has a national reputation for excellence. We are proud of the work our Children’s Services do; Ofsted recently recognised their hard work, rating us as Outstanding across all areas. We are looking for Social Workers to join our Care Planning and Support teams.
Requirements
* Our team works with children and young people who are cared for by the Local Authority, working closely with families, using an established Practice Model to create plans to achieve the best possible outcomes. This includes working with children in the care of their parents or network, Local Authority foster care or residential care, and children and families going through care proceedings.
* A good understanding of the court process or a willingness to learn is vital.
* We invest in training for Social Workers, including specific practice model training covering systemic social work, signs of safety, restorative practice and family networking approaches.
* The role is varied; Social Workers may develop materials with families, chair or support family network meetings, or work with a young person on their pathway to independence. We work with children and young people from birth up to age 18, with strong links to other teams and partner agencies.
* The team consists of a Team Manager and Practice Supervisors, with dedicated business support to enable Social Workers to spend more time with children, young people and families. There is a well-defined Supervision Policy, including regular group and individual supervision and opportunities to participate in County Wide practice model sessions and conversations about practice.
