We are seeking a Gardener for an exciting role at an Arts and Crafts Garden in Monmouthshire which has been re-developed by the owners alongside Arne Maynard over the last decade. The successful candidate will integrate into the current team; maintaining and restoring the gardens of Mounton House.
With the restoration reaching its conclusion, we are looking to add to our team of creative, skilled and knowledgeable gardeners to improve and maintain the gardens to the highest standards. A broad skill set is required to undertake all garden tasks including herbaceous border maintenance, lawn care, cut flower and vegetable gardening, pest control, woodland work, glasshouse displays, propagation and water feature management alongside the more routine tasks of planting, deadheading, watering, weeding and tidying. There is scope within the role for the development of responsibilities, ownership of tasks and the day-to-day management of areas within the garden. The role is suited to someone who is proactive in their approach and willing to develop their skills. The house and gardens are privately owned and host a series of garden tours throughout the summer period. The Gardener role will report to the Head Gardener and Senior Gardeners and assist in the training and management of 1 or more trainees.
Applicants should have experience working in the horticulture sector, hold a recognised qualification and have the right to work in the UK. Ideally, applicants should hold PA1/PA6 spraying certificates, have a broad knowledge of a range of plants and garden tasks with specialist knowledge of one or more areas and an ability to work outdoors all year round in a physically demanding role. A good knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures is also required. Above all else, the successful candidate will possess a good attitude, a strong interest in plants and gardens and the ability to work within a small team to help create the vision of the owners, designer and garden team members.
