Job overview

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Unise HUB within the Bedford Community Mental Health Services in Bedford Borough, including the blended teams. You will manage and oversee service performance, budget controls, quality improvement, workforce recruitment, development, and compliance. Engaging with service users, carers, and system partners to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of services. Proactively operating within the Community Service Management Team to secure its strategic priorities. You will lead the service extending support and guidance in a compassionate and productive manner cognizant of the Trust values, whilst developing the team’s ability to operate in an autonomous and efficient manner.

Main duties of the job

You will have lead responsibility for continually improving the quality and performance of the team. The list below is not exhaustive but reflects the main duties of the post:

1. To manage the effective delivery of all functions of the team, ensuring that robust arrangements are in place to support service users, carers and partner organisations, and that the effective management of human, financial and estate resources is in place to achieve Trust objectives.
2. To achieve financial balance in the team, making the best use of your financial resources to achieve positive clinical outcomes for service users and carers.
3. To support the Directorate to meet annual FV requirements.
4. To ensure the physical environment is conducive to the delivery of high quality care by ensuring there are clear systems for:
5. Undertaking assessments in safe and secure environments
6. Ensuring accessible systems are in place including RiO, Datix, Summary Care Record, etc.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

7. Registered Professional in either Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or Occupational therapy with current registration with NMC, HCPC or equivalent
8. Evidence of post registration continue professional development, qualifications or equivalent experience
9. Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

10. Diploma in Management studies or equivalent
11. BIA assessor
12. AMHP
13. Practice Educator or mentor

Experience

Essential criteria

14. Previous experience of managing a group of clinical staff
15. Previous experience of organisational change
16. Previous experience of service development, quality improvement and of bringing innovation and new ideas to practice
17. Previous experience of working within the NHS and with senior allied professionals, internal and external stake holders

Skills

Essential criteria

18. Computer literacy
19. Excellent organisational skills - able to prioritise own work and manage own time.
20. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills and the ability to meet tight timelines
21. Excellent skills of conflict resolution, negotiation and facilitation
22. Acts upon service user and carer feedback and information to improve the way things are done taking personal responsibility for resolving
23. Ability to build relationships and negotiate satisfactory outcomes with internal and external Stakeholders.
24. Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, manage frequent interruptions, readjust and prioritise work load according to the needs of the service.
25. Anticipates and takes action in order to create and seize opportunities to avoid crises taking an overview of complex situations to generate new perspectives - 'thinks outside the box' identifies and implements quick wins where possible
26. Ability to review and analyse complex data and recommend a course of action and objectives and motivate staff to achieve them.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

27. Very good knowledge of current and relevant local and national agendas that impact upon community mental health services and the wider health and social care system and the ability to understand and disseminate this knowledge to others.
28. Sound knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act (1983/ 2007/ 2014/5), Care Act (2014), relevant national standards, No Health without Mental Health (2011) and other relevant national policies
29. Very good understanding of recovery principles and NICE guidance in relation to mental health community services and the ability to ensure that evidence based practice with clear clinical outcomes is embedded into practice
