Minerva Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Waste Management Officer on a full-time, temporary basis. This role is ideal for candidates with practical waste management experience who enjoy working independently and supporting the delivery of high-quality recycling and waste services.
The Role You will play a key role in delivering waste and recycling services, assisting residents with queries, supporting container delivery and collection, and ensuring high standards of service. The role includes monitoring contractor performance, auditing waste and recycling assets, and collecting data to support service improvement.
Approximately 75% of this role involves lone working across the district, with the remainder supporting administrative and team-based functions.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of waste, recycling, and street cleansing operations to ensure compliance with standards and codes of practice
Undertake environmental quality surveys, including cleanliness and bin condition assessments
Record data using waste management IT systems and report findings to management
Log incidents of graffiti and follow procedures for notifying property owners
Support door-to-door surveys, kerbside recycling audits, and collection of containers for residents
Provide advice and information on waste, recycling, and street cleansing to the public and stakeholders
Assist with promotional activities, including weekend events, as required
Assess waste and recycling resource requirements for new developments, advising on standards and compliance
Work collaboratively with contractors and internal teams to maintain service qualitySkills & Experience
Experience working in a waste management environment or similar public service role
Knowledge of waste management functions and operational standards
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general IT systems
Ability to navigate and prioritise routes for visits and audits
Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear advice to the public and colleagues
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Awareness of health and safety principles and procedures
