Role
Field Service Engineer
Devonport
Thales are looking to recruit a passionate and driven Field Service Engineer to be responsible for the deployment, setting to work and in service support of Sonar systems deployed on Royal Navy and export customers ships/submarines. The role is based at Devonport, but may require travel across the UK and occasionally overseas to support Royal Navy platforms.

What you will deliver
* Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all Thales activities carried out by you and comply with:
*
o Risk Assessments
o COSHH Assessments
o Safe systems of work
o Be ultimately accountable for your own day-to-day welfare
* Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms in Defect Rectification:
*
o Front-line support including fault diagnosis and testing and acceptance trials in harbour and at sea
o Provide on-call telephone support to customers (at an appropriate level of knowledge)
o Write site visit reports
* Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms Maintenance Periods / Refit:
*
o Conduct Pre-Upkeep Maintenance Assessment (PUMA) inspections
o Conduct scheduled maintenance activities
o Conduct setting to work / commissioning activities to bring RN platforms out of refit
o Escalate engineering issues to the Field Services Manager or Service Delivery Manager as required
o Write post maintenance reports
* Weekly reports to the Service Delivery Manager / Field Services Manager as required covering:
*
o Activities undertaken
o Upcoming activities
o Successes, challenges, opportunities
o Identify any support required from the project or department
* Identification of your own personal and professional development
* Compliance with all export control rules and regulations including ITAR
* Ad-hoc duties that are consistent with the nature of this position
Who we are looking for
* Full UK driving licence
* Demonstrable experience in installations and/or support engineering, preferably in a maritime environment
* Able to use a range of IT tools
* Able to use a range of generic test equipment
* Experience in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic and Hydraulic), especially with Complex Systems
* Willing to travel occasionally to meet the Royal Navy (less than 10%)
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
* Self-motivated and able to work under pressure
Security and eligibility
This role will require SC Clearance. If not currently held, the successful applicant will need to obtain and maintain SC Clearance. Eligibility details and guidance are available on the UK government security sites. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance and additional evidence may be requested as part of the process.
