Job Details
* Location: Closeburn House – Dumfriesshire DG3 5HP / Maben House - Dumfriesshire DG11 1RW (covering both sites)
* Salary: Up to £53,200 pro rata (dependent on experience)
* Hours: 22 hours per week, 08.30am – 4.30pm (3 days a week)
* Contract: Permanent (52 weeks)
Responsibilities
* Deliver bespoke speech and language therapy assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neurodivergent or have SEMH needs.
* Work within the standards provided in the OFG Speech and Language Therapy Ways of Working, guiding practice within an education setting and clarifying roles and responsibilities.
* Hold a speech and language therapy caseload under the full support of a designated clinical supervisor and site lead.
* Contribute to staff training and consultation as required.
* Collaborate with the education team to support pupils’ independence and overall development.
* Maintain a person‑centred, empowering approach and uphold a strong safeguarding culture.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
* HCPC registered.
* 1–2 years experience as a fully registered member of the RCSLT working in a similar setting.
* Experience engaging and working with individuals presenting with complex and diverse communication profiles.
* Knowledge of neurodiversity and trauma‑informed practice.
* Experience of multi‑disciplinary working in a range of settings.
* Experience communicating with families, relatives and carers.
* Interest in developing knowledge and skills in different areas of SaLT practice.
* Good relationship‑building, analytical and judgmental skills.
* Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
* Good time management and organisational skills.
* Competent in core areas of SaLT practice and a clear understanding of RCSLT Communication Standards.
* Knowledge of RCSLT assessment tools and intervention types, and ability to formulate support plans based on needs profile.
* Knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Willingness to attend training and work towards further qualifications relevant to the client group.
Desirable
* Understanding of sensory and motor differences and their impact on communication strengths or difficulties.
* Evidence of understanding the relationship between arousal levels and communication.
* Full driving licence and access to a car.
