The University of Manchester are seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of People Experience, Engagement & Culture to join their Organisational and Effectiveness & Culture, People Directorate Team.
The Associate Director of People Experience & Culture is a critical strategic, yet hands- on leadership role sitting within the newly created Organisational Effectiveness and Culture centre of expertise. The role holder will work closely with the Organisational and Effectiveness & Culture, People Directorate and wider university senior leadership teams. The overall purpose of the OE & Culture team’s is to develop the strategies, approach, frameworks and plan to enable the University to delivery successfully to Manchester 2035 strategic priorities, whilst placing our people and our culture at the heart of strategic delivery.
Key Accountabilities
* To provide inspirational and engaging leadership to a small multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts, ensuring an environment of shared goals, continuous learning, inclusivity, belonging and results orientation.
* To lead the team in the curation of our unique University of Manchester people experience, working in partnership with other centres of expertise, the People Services and People Partnering teams to ensure the experience is embedded in all of our people process, policies and leadership culture
* To lead the delivery of our employee value proposition to ensure that our talent is connected to university goals and that the university is a place where people want to come to work and want to stay.
* To influence an inclusive workplace culture, focused on belonging, wellbeing performance and employee development and retention, building on the strengths of our current culture, identifying the essential stepping stones to developing the cultural and behavioural changes that are essential for Manchester 2035 strategic goals.
* To influence, develop and lead the delivery of our unique Manchester leadership identify, and, in partnership with the Talent Development centre of expertise to ensure that leadership interventions are aligned to the experience, values and curated experience of our leaders. An important aspect of this accountability includes engagement and experience strategy for university distributed leadership model and emerging leadership talent.
* The role holder will work closely with Organisation Effectiveness and Culture leadership team to co-create the team’s strategic direction and priorities, ensuring the engagement, voice, experience, leadership and culture if fully embedded into all aspects of the university strategic delivery plan.
* Champion a positive and inclusive workplace culture by executing engagement initiatives, well-being programmes and employee listening initiatives, coaching leadership to implement action plans that enhance team engagement and retention
As an ideal candidate you will have:
* Good knowledge of organisational psychology and the behaviour of employees and leadership in a university working environment.
* Strong cultural competence and awareness with knowledge of how to embed drive strategically aligned cultural change.
* Experience of leading a team of subject matter expertise with sometimes unique and individual capabilities.
* Experience of delivery cultural, behavioural and mindset changes across a large and complex organisation.
* Experience of presenting to and influencing the views of senior organisational leaders through the ability to translate experience, leadership and culture concepts into organisational results.
* Experience in delivering People / HR projects and driving organisational and culture change
* Commercially aware and strategic thinker with the ability to align HR strategies with business strategy.
* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop a team of senior People Leaders.
* Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engagement and influence a variety of senior leadership teams, trade unions and academic and PS colleagues.
* The ability to build excellent, credible and trusting relationships with various stakeholders across the university and academic leadership skills.
* Commercially aware and strategic thinker with the ability to align HR strategies with business goals.
* Results driven strategist with proven experience of coaching leaders in translating their team / organisational goals into people experience, engagement, leadership and culture initiatives.
* Degree level HR, Change or Organisational Psychology qualification
Desirable skills and experience:
* Knowledge of HE Sector and internal and external factors influencing universities is preferred but not essential
* Preferably CIPD Accredited.
