A leading wholesale distributor in the South West is seeking a commercially astute, forward-thinking Finance Controller to join their dynamic and growing team. Supplying fresh produce, dry goods, frozen, and chilled products to a broad customer base – including hospitality venues, public institutions, and care facilities – they operate from depots across the West Country.
Following a recent merger of two established businesses, they are entering an exciting phase of integration and development. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the finance function and supporting strategic objectives through accurate reporting and financial insight.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial processes and month-end close.
* Deliver consistent, insightful financial reports and key business KPIs.
* Lead customer rebate and supplier claim processes, ensuring robust provisions and timely submissions.
* Prepare monthly margin and cashflow reports.
* Collaborate with the Management Accountant on balance sheet reconciliations and risk/opportunity assessments.
* Support year-end audit and lead on key deliverables and schedules.
* Assist in the annual budget setting process.
* Drive improvements in accounting controls and internal processes.
* Provide leadership to the transactional finance team across multiple sites.
About the Role:
* Primarily based at the Ugbrooke site in Devon, with occasional travel to Cornwall depots.
* Key focus on financial accuracy, data integrity, and variance analysis.
* Actively involved in cross-department collaboration, particularly with HR, Commercial, Telesales, Transport, and Warehousing.
* Supports a continuous improvement culture across finance and operations.
The Ideal Candidate:
* ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified with proven experience in a senior finance role.
* Commercially minded with a strong grasp of business drivers and operational performance.
* Experienced in managing change and leading finance teams in fast-paced environments.
* Skilled in communication, able to convey financial information clearly to senior stakeholders.
* Competent with systems including Microsoft Office and SAGE Payroll & Finance.
* Practical, methodical, and solutions-oriented with great attention to detail.
