Overview

Situated within the Wolverhampton-based Older Adult Enhanced Community Mental Health Team, the post will have active links with and support from the OA Psychology team across other older adult services. The post-holder will be a valued colleague in a community-based team, committed to a multi-disciplinary approach with older people who manifest highly complex mental health, clinical and social needs. There are opportunities to teach on the in-house CBT training course, supervise Assistants in the redesigned Older Adult Therapeutic Service (OATS) and help establish the In Reach to Care Home (IRTCH) service. Currently psychologists across the teams offer Systemic, EMDR, CAT, and CBT interventions, and we are in the early stages of developing a complex emotional needs pathway for older people. Job responsibilities / Main duties

* Accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of highly specialist psychological care to clients with highly complex mental health or learning disabilities, which may include challenging behaviours.
* Be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families.
* Promote a positive image of people with mental health issues and of the service and wider Trust.
* Exercise supervisory/professional responsibility for other psychological therapists; provide leadership in MDT training, service audit and development, service evaluation and research; contribute to service redesign and cultural change.
* Lead and supervise psychological practitioners and contribute to teaching on local Applied Psychology training courses.
* Support the establishment and development of the OA Therapeutic Service (OATS) and In Reach to Care Home (IRTCH) service; participate in dementia pathway work where appropriate.


Main Duties / Responsibilities

* Clinical Responsibilities, Patient Contact: Provide highly specialist psychological assessment of clients with highly complex conditions using data from multiple sources, including neuropsychological testing where appropriate.
* Recognise safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action to protect clients; identify and report safeguarding concerns for children at risk.
* Undertake risk assessment and risk management; provide specialist advice on psychological aspects of risk to other professionals.
* Formulate plans for highly specialist psychological therapy and manage mental health conditions using evidence-based practice; negotiate plans with clients and carers.
* Deliver a range of highly specialist psychological therapies for individuals, carers, families and groups; refine formulations as required.
* Undertake evaluations and inform treatment options; provide specialist psychological advice and consultation to other staff.
* Facilitate decision-making by planning and mapping interventions with MDT members to determine appropriate treatment modalities or services.
* Collaborate with NHS, social inclusion, health and voluntary sectors on matters affecting client care.


Supervisory / Professional Responsibility

* Clinical supervision of Trainee Applied Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists.
* Clinical supervision of Band 7 Applied Psychologists within the immediate area under the guidance of the Consultant Applied Psychologist.
* Maintain accountability for own actions and seek appropriate support and supervision as required.
* Keep up-to-date with CPD, maintaining a CPD log in line with HCPC requirements.
* Contribute to teaching on local Applied Psychology training courses.


Multi-Disciplinary Training and Development

* Provide specialist advice and consultation to MDT colleagues.
* Provide clinical supervision and deliver training to MDT staff.


Service Development and Evaluation

* Plan and map interventions with MDT to determine best treatments for groups of clients.
* Contribute to MDT delivery of CQUIN, QIP projects, NICE benchmarking and compliance as required.
* Apply psychological change processes to the MDT and support cultural change in the service.
* Engage in clinical audits, service evaluation and research within MDT; develop proposals for research and monitor outcomes; supervise trainee service evaluation and/or research.
* Undertake other duties as required to provide a quality OA service.


Qualifications and Requirements

Essential

* HCPC registration
* Qualification in clinical or counselling psychology
* Evidence of CPD
* Evidence of MDT working and liaison with older agencies

Desirable

* Experience of working with older people
* Experience of community working
* BPS member

UK Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is considered where required. UK professional registration is required (HCPC). Salary details: Band 8a; Permanent; Full-time.
