Job Title: Principal Engineer

Location: London
Principal Engineer – Director position with Bank of America. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining large‑scale risk applications for the Financial Instruments and Commodities (FICC) lines of business.
Responsibilities
- Analyze business requirements and design solutions within the target architecture.
- Lead more junior developers, providing technical direction and mentorship.
- Engage fully in the development lifecycle, including supporting UAT and regression testing.
- Deliver high‑quality, elegant and maintainable Python code.
- Collaborate with Middle Office, Front Office, Business Supervision Officers, and Finance teams to build risk applications.
- Participate in agile development practices (XP, SCRUM, Kanban) and continuous integration pipelines.
- Ensure solutions meet large‑scale platform standards and distributed architecture requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Solid years of software engineering experience.
- Experience in technical design with a strong background/track record of delivering solutions.
- Excellent problem‑solving, design, development, debugging, and complex technical problem solving skills.
- Strong understanding of programming paradigms such as distributed architectures and working with large data sets.
- Experience developing, testing, and delivering complex software requirements to achieve business goals.
- Solid knowledge of contemporary development processes, build environments and testing tools.
- Ideally 5+ years of experience in the Financial Services industry.
- Good working knowledge of front‑office risk in any business within Global Markets.
- Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or a related analytical degree.
- Knowledge or experience of agile development (e.g. XP, SCRUM, Kanban) and continuous integration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with other technology teams, business groups including trading, finance, technology and middle office.
- Team player, self‑motivated and proactive.
