Overview
Consultant Anaesthetist with Specialist Interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia, based at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. This is a substantive post available from April 2026.
Job responsibilities
* Cover elective and emergency paediatric theatres, including neonates and neurosurgical cases, with the ability to deliver adult sessions as required.
* Contribute to the paediatric on‑call anaesthesia rota (currently 1:10).
* Join an expanding department and participate in teaching, research and high‑fidelity simulation within a modern teaching hospital.
* Engage in departmental development, including involvement with the Major Trauma Centre and the regional paediatric surgery services described.
About the role environment
The department provides paediatric anaesthesia within a regional/supra-regional referral centre and includes a 40‑bed neonatal unit (12 ICU, 16 HDU, 12 SCBU) and the only PICU in the East of England (13 beds). Subspecialty activity covers neonatal surgery, general paediatric surgery, neurosurgery, urology, plastics, ENT, complex scoliosis and orthopaedics. Paediatric cardiac surgery, paediatric transplantation and craniofacial services are not offered on site. Development of a stand‑alone Children’s Hospital on the Campus is under way.
Qualifications and eligibility
* Fully registered with the GMC and either a CCT in Anaesthesia or within six months of award at the time of interview, or have submitted paperwork for Specialist Registration via CESR.

* Good communication skills in English (listening, reading, writing and speaking) as required by GMC Good Medical Practice; non‑UK applicants must have IELTS/OET before GMC licensure.
