Research Nurse/Radiographer, Technologist or Physicist - Band 6

A vacancy has arisen for a suitably qualified healthcare professional to work at band 6 in the Radiation Oncology Research department supporting our nuclear medicine research portfolio. The post would be suitable for a Nurse, or a Nuclear Medicine trained Radiographer, Technologist or Physicist. Based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, this is a unique opportunity to join an enthusiastic and highly motivated team providing clinical trial support in Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.

Your role will be to provide support to clinical trials involving Nuclear Medicine imaging and Molecular Radiotherapy at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. You will work within a team consisting of 3 radiographers and 2 clinical trial coordinators that also supports external beam and brachytherapy research, but you will maintain close links with the Nuclear Medicine and Medical Physics departments. You will be involved in all aspects of clinical research, from scoping new trials, through set-up, costing and feasibility assessments, to patient recruitment, data collection, quality assurance and follow-up. The clinical trials include multi-centre commercial and non-commercial studies, as well as locally-led research projects in imaging and therapy.


Main duties of the job

The role of the research practitioner at The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RSCH) will be to support the set up and delivery of research within the radiation oncology setting. The role will involve screening patients and monitoring patients during studies, assisting with clinical investigations and the collection and documentation of accurate data. The research practitioner will work collaboratively with all teams to provide excellent care for patients undergoing cancer treatments.

The role involves using an in depth knowledge of research methodology and knowledge of the requirements of local, national and international research regulations.

To assist the team leader in leading the team in the provision of high quality, research based, care that is patient focused. To support the team leader in the management and facilitation of the development of staff creating an effective team

Facilities in the recently-refurbished Nuclear Medicine Department include three SPECT/CT systems (including one general purpose solid-state CZT system), two inpatient molecular radiotherapy rooms, in-vitro measurement laboratory, and secondary standard radionuclide calibration facilities. There is a close working partnership with local private providers of PET/CT, including active research collaborations. The Nuclear Medicine Physics section has a joint clinical physicist post with the National Physical Laboratory, and has close links with the University of Surrey and active research collaborations with other partners.

Guildford is an attractive University town with the hospital situated on the pleasant tree-lined campus with easy access to the south coast, London and the Surrey Hills. The beautiful surrounding countryside is popular for walking and cycling, and includes part of the Olympic cycling route.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* NMC Level One Registration (if applying as nurse) HCPC Registration (if applying as radiographer or clinical scientist)


Knowledge

* At significant clinical/research experience
* Experience of multidisciplinary working and collaborating with other agencies
* Management of resources
* Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development
* Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
* Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
* Clinical trials experience
