Job overview

Ensure the provision of high-standard, family-centred, evidence-based nursing and medical care using advanced clinical skills from pre-admission to discharge of babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Transitional Care Unit (TC). Support the midwifery team in delivering care to babies across inpatient maternity services. This role is within the junior doctor tier of the medical roster.

Participate in developing local and network policies, guidelines, and benchmarks within the Neonatal Network and Women and Children’s Division. Implement the Neonatal Network and Trust nursing strategies within the Neonatal Unit, ensuring integration into practice with audits and service development advice.

Support the Practice Development Nurse in educational support for neonatal staff to deliver family-centred, effective care during the neonatal pathway.

Main duties of the job

Undertake advanced neonatal nurse practitioner training on appointment to this post. Promote high standards of specialist nursing and medical care by assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating holistic care for babies, parents, and families based on evidence and guidelines. Respond to maternity service calls to assess babies and provide specialist advice.

Person specification


Qualifications/training and professional development

* Registered Nurse in Child or Adult, RSCN, or Registered Midwife
* Teaching and Assessing Qualification
* Child Protection Level 3
* MSc in Advanced Neonatal Practice


Experience

* Experience supervising and assessing learners


Skills, abilities, and competencies

* Ability to plan and prioritize neonatal care
* Understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct
* Understanding of safeguarding processes
* Understanding of clinical governance
* Advanced clinical skills
