Salary aligned to current NHS Scotland Band 6 rates: £43,231 to £52,679 per annum, depending on experience and skills.
We are looking for a motivated, compassionate and experienced Mental Health Nurse Prescriber to join our friendly and supportive primary care team. This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Mental Health Nurse with prescribing capability to work within a GP practice setting, supporting patients who present with a wide range of mental health needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving access to timely mental health support within primary care by providing assessment, brief intervention, prescribing within competence and coordination with wider services.
Main Duties
1. Provide holistic mental health assessments for adults presenting in primary care with mental health concerns.
2. Undertake triage, formulate initial care plans and support early intervention for patients with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
3. Carry out risk assessments and risk management planning where appropriate.
4. Deliver brief evidence-based therapeutic interventions and recovery-focused support within primary care.
5. Work collaboratively with GPs, practice staff, community mental health teams, secondary care services and third sector agencies.
6. Act as a key point of contact within the practice for patients presenting with mental health concerns, including signposting and onward referral where needed.
7. Prescribe safely and appropriately as an independent nurse prescriber, within competence, local policy and governance arrangements.
8. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and contribute to service improvement.
About You
9. Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC registration.
10. Qualified Independent Nurse Prescriber with NMC annotation.
11. Experience in mental health nursing, ideally within community, primary care, liaison or outpatient settings.
12. Confident in mental health assessment, triage, risk assessment and care planning.
13. Able to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
14. Compassionate, resilient and committed to person-centred, recovery-focused care.
