Analytical Chemist – 12-16 Months Fixed Term Contract
As the Analytical Chemist in this role, you will work with the operational team working on day to day plant monitoring and projects to improve efficiency of products and processes in line with the site 2025 strategy. You will have the opportunity to propose new CI opportunities and help implement these to support safe, complaint and competitive antibiotic manufacture today and into the future.
Job Purpose
To provide chemistry understanding & support to continuously improve performance and associated activities within Antibiotics Production at Irvine and provide process understanding through use of analytical methodology.
In this role you will
1. Prepare batch failure and deviation reports to ensure that root cause analysis of all batch failures and process deviations are carried out. Identify and implement CAPA’s to prevent re-occurrence and monitor closure.
2. Monitor product quality on a daily basis to identify out of trend results and take appropriate action to rectify any issues.
3. Manage technical aspects of raw material source change by conducting risk and technical assessments to ensure safe and compliant implementation of change and continuity/security of supply.
4. Be involved in a diverse range of activities such as routine analysis, method development and validation using investigational studies to develop a scientific understanding of fermentation and downstream processes.
5. Identify and carry out optimisation programs to improve performance with respect to yield efficiency, cost of production, safety and technical governance.
6. To plan, organise and manage analytical programme and equipment.
7. Develop KPI’s and leading indicators to monitor performance and where appropriate in partnership with Operations embed and sustain their use.
Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
8. Degree in Chemistry or relevant scientific discipline or substantial previous laboratory experience in a similar role
9. Proven practical experience in a range of analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC and MS.
10. Relevant experience in their technical discipline in a chemical, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

11. Production support knowledge and experience is desirable.
12. Project management experience would be beneficial.
13. Strong background in Analysis Techniques applicable to Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline
14. Demonstrated problem solving skills
15. Experience of generating technical reports and proposals
