Overview
This post offers the opportunity to work within a highly skilled department of surgery at a large NHS Foundation Trust, delivering open, laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures in acute and elective settings. The department provides broad clinical exposure and opportunities to gain experience across different environments.
Responsibilities
* Cover General Surgical wards/clinics/theatres from 8am to 5pm and actively participate in patient management on the wards, in outpatients, operating theatres and endoscopy.
* Contribute to investigation of patients and formulation and execution of patient care plans under the guidance of team colleagues. Participate in ward rounds and ensure daily up-to-date documentation (ward round notes, VTE, antibiotics and Sepsis tool, TTO) and support the "Home For Lunch" campaign.
* Engage in career development, with study leave and a budget for appropriate courses in line with other trainees. Participate in operating theatre and day case sessions under consultant supervision and be involved in perioperative care.
* Guide junior colleagues and request patient investigations with decision-making support from senior colleagues to ensure high-quality patient care and safety.
* Participate in the registrar on-call rota as either first or second on call (two registrars on call at any one time from 8am to 8pm; 50% on-call supplement). On-call cover includes supporting colleagues in their absence and responding to emergencies as required, in consultation with the appropriate Consultant and with colleagues.
* Perform duties during emergencies or unforeseen circumstances as requested by the Consultant, in consultation with senior and junior colleagues where practicable.
