Overview
Devon Partnership Trust invites applications for the role of Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Exeter West Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and the Place of Safety. This full‑time post supports patients aged 18‑65, with part‑time/job‑share options welcome. The post is based at Wonford House, Exeter, and includes private office space, IT access and dedicated secretarial support. The post holder will oversee a caseload and provide Responsible Clinician cover for the Devon‑wide Place of Safety for patients awaiting bed allocation.

Salary range: £109,725 to £145,478 per year. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time, Part‑time, Flexible working.
Responsibilities
* Offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients managed by the Exeter West CMHT and support other clinical services as required to benefit patients and their families/carers.
* Provide leadership to the wider CMHT and help ensure patient‑centred, efficient care pathways within the Trust.
* Provide Responsible Clinician cover for patients in the Wonford House Place of Safety for those detained under the Mental Health Act, including initial assessment, treatment planning and act responsibilities (e.g., section 17 leave).
* Attend to POS patients with an average length of stay of 2–3 days, with approximately 12 hours per week allocated to this activity; may require daily attendance during weekdays as needed.
* Participate in on‑call rotas and support cross‑cover by other consultants as required.
Qualifications and requirements
* Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
* Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up the post.
* Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
* Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Desirable: MRCPsych or other professional qualifications; CCT in General Psychiatry.
Essential qualities and experience
* Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team and in psychiatric practice across community settings.
* Ability to interpret and apply research findings to clinical practice; capability to lead in a multidisciplinary team; strong communication and collaborative skills.
* Commitment to continuing professional development and to multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working.
