About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Solution Design Lead to join our team on a permanent basis. You will fulfill both strategic and people management roles within the Solution Design team, leading and delivering the team’s strategy and direction while managing your direct reports effectively. As a Solution Design Lead, you will set the design runway for significant change programmes at NFU Mutual, collaborating with senior stakeholders and business areas. You’ll work closely with colleagues in Business and IT Architecture to understand high-level business outcomes and the Architecture vision. You will be accountable for the design activity for a programme or set of projects, organizing workload and deadlines for your team.
You’ll consult, challenge, and make recommendations to senior business stakeholders on new initiatives requiring IT solutions, while fostering the growth of the Solution Design capability to support customer and business needs.
As a leader, you’ll play a key role in process design and strategy, streamlining procedures and ways of working to enable quicker change delivery. Using your planning and organization skills, you’ll monitor and oversee the delivery of the Solution Design operation, ensuring effective resource management to support successful solutions and services delivery.
About you
You’ll be a strategic thinker and a natural leader with a passion for designing innovative, scalable IT solutions aligned with enterprise strategy and future business needs. You will have a strong background in solution architecture and design, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams responsible for designing and building quality, robust, and secure IT solutions that deliver real business value.
You will thrive in complex programme environments where your ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate with senior stakeholders makes a significant impact. You should have a deep understanding of architectural and design principles and extensive knowledge of the technology landscape.
You’re confident leading cross-functional teams, managing competing priorities, and ensuring high-quality, consistent, and standards-aligned design outcomes. As a mentor and motivator, you will be passionate about developing others, sharing your expertise, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across IT and business functions are essential, and you should be comfortable being the go-to expert for solution design.
