Questech Recruitment are recruiting for an exciting new role to join one of out clients based out of Coatbridge working as a Senior Supervisor this role would suit someone who is ideally from a Crane & Lifting Equipment background who has vast experience in the industry who also doesn’t mind getting back on the tools in emergency circumstances (this would be far a few between but would be an expectancy).
Please note this is a permanent role direct with our client.

The Salary
Up to £59,000 per annum (D.O.E)

The Hours
Monday to Friday working 0700 to 1700.

The Role

* To oversee all workshop activities relating to cranes and lifting equipment.

* To ensure statutory compliance of all cranes and associated lifting assets maintained by the business.

* To promote a strong Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) culture, ensuring best practice is implemented and adhered to at all times.

* To ensure the workshop provides cost-effective inspection, maintenance, and repair services for the Group.

* To ensure Group Procedures are complied with by Engineering employees.

* To review and challenge the pricing of parts, specialist services, and subcontract support.

* To liaise with customers and site representatives as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

* Liaise with Engineering management, crane technicians, and apprentices to ensure the smooth and compliant running of the workshop, allocating tasks and supporting complex diagnostics and fault finding (hydraulic, electrical, structural, and control systems).

* Liaise with customer site managers and operations teams to ensure cranes and lifting equipment are presented for inspection, thorough examination, servicing, and repair in accordance with LOLER and PUWER requirements.

* Ensure fair notice and scheduling of all statutory inspections and thorough examinations.

* Ensure customers and relevant responsible persons are informed appropriately to optimise service delivery and minimise operational downtime.

* Ensure completeness and accuracy of service records, inspection reports, and certification. Record VOR (Vehicle/Equipment Off Road) or out-of-service notices where assets cannot be made available.

* Ensure all safety-critical and defect repairs are completed before returning cranes or lifting equipment to service.

* Keep up to date with developments in lifting regulations, HS&E legislation, and industry best practice.

* Identify additional Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), lift plans, and risk assessment requirements relevant to workshop and site activities, contributing to their development and implementation.

* Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, particularly those involving lifting operations or equipment failure.

* Evaluate developing crane technologies, diagnostic tools, and training needs, carrying out cost-benefit analysis where appropriate.

* Ensure all workshop tools, lifting accessories, test equipment, and plant are maintained, calibrated, and inspected by the appropriate competent bodies.

* Challenge individuals who fail to comply with safety standards, statutory requirements, or Group procedures, providing on-the-job coaching and initiating disciplinary action where required.

* Challenge suppliers regarding costs, warranty claims, and service levels for crane components, hydraulics, electrical systems, and specialist repairs.

* Review supplier parts and subcontract service costs to ensure best value for the Group and its customers.

General Requirements

* Strong crane technician background with experience in inspection, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of mobile, tower, or overhead cranes (or similar lifting equipment).

* Sound working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, and lifting industry compliance requirements.

* Customer-focused, able to manage expectations professionally and confidently.

* Able to work on own initiative and make informed technical decisions.

* Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and lead a team of technicians.

* Ensure assets are returned to service in a safe, compliant, and fully operational condition.

* Ensure defective or damaged lifting equipment is clearly identified, quarantined where necessary, and repaired in a timely manner.

* Assist in disciplinary processes and accident investigations where required.

* Ensure appropriate PPE is worn and safety standards are upheld at all times.
