Security Officer – Port of Felixstowe
This is a part‑time role covering a mixture of day and night shifts. The position is primarily for sickness and holiday cover. You will receive training and work in a variety of roles including Access Control Points, Search Team and Gates. Hours are either 1900‑0700 or 0700‑1900. Pay rate is £14.06 per hour.
Job Objectives & Responsibilities
* Providing Maritime Security under International Ship and Port Facility Security (I.S.P.S.)
* Conduct various searches of vehicles entering the Restricted Area under I.S.P.S.
* Provide a customer‑friendly, reassuring, professional security presence.
* Communicate with the Port Police, reporting any suspicious activity, packages or any discrepancies with either ID or searches.
* Monitor and control access to the Restricted Area via Access Control Points.
* Check and control the egress of HGVs leaving the port.
* Ensure access control to the port using vehicle access barriers at access points.
* Monitor gatehouses for safe walkways for pedestrian access.
* Verify driver documentation and identification.
* Verify vehicle identification documentation.
* Ensure compliance with DfT regulations regarding vehicle searches (internal / external).
* Ensure compliance with DfT regulations regarding personal searches.
* Control egress of containers/trailers at Gate 1 & 2 and ensure accuracy of ANPR.
* Provide a visual deterrent.
* Liaise with port and statutory authorities (police and Border Force) as required.
Qualifications
* SIA Security Guarding licence, or Door Supervisor licence is essential.
* Full driving licence is essential (duties may include driving around the port on search duties).
* Proven work experience as a security officer or equivalent position.
* Experience delivering excellent customer service.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Some computer experience, ability to write clear daily written reports.
* Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols.
* Experience working as part of a team or independently.
* Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
