Applications are invited for a Band 7 Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist (CNS), consideration would be given to a Band 6 in a CNS development post, this would require competency achievement before progressing to a band 7. This post is 19hrs and worked over 3 days in our busy lung cancer service at Whipps Cross Hospital. You will join 2 x established CNS colleagues, you will be predominately based at Whipps Cross hospital but would be part of the wider lung cancer service across Barts Health, supporting the other hospital sites when required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the respiratory and oncology teams, across sites (occasional cross site cover may be required). This is an exciting role that supports patients undergoing referral and investigation for a potential new cancer diagnosis, focusing on diagnostic, treatment and supportive pathways. The post holder will help to improve information and support provided to patients and families, undertake holistic needs assessment, help navigate cancer pathways and referrals between different hospital sites and community services including GPs and community nursing teams. There will be an opportunity to work in a nurse led clinic and attend MDT’s.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. First-level degree in Nursing (e.g., BSc) or equivalent)
2. Relevant post-graduate course in oncology/respiratory or equivalent specialist training
3. Teaching qualification i.e ENB 997/8, Teaching, Assessing and Mentoring in Practice
4. Non-medical prescribing qualification
5. Must hold current professional nursing registration with the NMC
Experience
Essential criteria
6. Evidence of practical experience performing duties and responsibilities comparable to those described in the job description
7. Senior nursing in experience in oncology, respiratory care, or equivalent specialist practice
8. Experience assessing, planning, and evaluating complex care for lung cancer patients
9. Experience providing education and support to patients, relatives, and staff
10. In-depth knowledge of lung cancer disease processes, treatments, and care pathways

11. Evidence of working collaboratively with professionals from different disciplines to deliver services or patient care.
