Responsibilities
* Conduct detailed design engineering for new projects, supporting proposals, purchasing, project management, quality and production teams.
* Provide day‑to‑day expertise to the Offshore Cables Engineering team on offshore cable design, including hardware design activities and key technical decisions.
* Support the Project Managers and Lead Offshore Engineer with project deliverables for HVAC / HVDC offshore cable elements.
* Support the project in the creation and coordination of electrical and mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and report writing for HVAC and HVDC cables.
* Generate pull‑in calculations, windfarm layout designs, general arrangement drawings and scope of supply drawings.
* Develop decommissioning procedures, cable accessories and specifications, and review vendor‑supplied documentation.
* Generate cable protection system specifications to support procurement activities and client requirements.
* Create installation, operation and maintenance procedures or guidelines.
* Prepare technical documentation to support WSP’s procurement process, including understanding of PQQ and ITT processes.
* Engineer cable route layouts, burial assessments and risk assessments.
* Provide proposal scopes of work, coordination and delivery.
Qualifications
* Understanding of HVAC inter‑array cable and export cable design, specifications and requirements for 66kV–132kV HVAC cables.
* Experience designing HVDC interconnectors up to 525kV, including cable design basis, reports and current rating calculations.
* Knowledge of cable selection, including electrical cores, sheath, armour and outer layers.
* Capability to perform mechanical covering cable ratings studies, electrical characteristics, pull‑in tensions and installation calculations.
* Strong ability to coordinate and interface across departments and with external vendors and clients.
* Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD; experience with other cable analysis software is beneficial.
