YOUR IMPACT
We are seeking a junior lawyer to join the Global Banking & Markets legal team in Birmingham, focusing on supporting our EMEA equity and fund trading desks. The role involves transactional, trading, and regulatory advice on a broad range of equity, derivative, and fund products, from high-profile strategic transactions to our innovative proprietary indices.
Experience in equities or fund products is beneficial but not required; we value enthusiasm and willingness to learn. You will collaborate extensively with colleagues across the global banking and markets legal team, the wider legal division, and stakeholders in sales, structuring, trading, compliance, and operations across multiple locations worldwide.
The team comprises seven lawyers based in London, Birmingham, Frankfurt, and Warsaw, covering the full spectrum of equity products and trading activities, including our proprietary index business, alternative fund structuring, flow and strategic equity derivatives, and margin lending.
RESPONSIBILITIES

* Advise trading businesses on regulatory, documentation, risk management, and cross-border legal issues.
* Assess legal and regulatory impacts of cross-border products, especially innovative fund products and algorithmic indices.
* Interpret and analyze the practical implications of regulatory reforms on the equities business.
* Assist with structuring, negotiating, and drafting transactional documents, coordinating with external counsel.
* Provide internal expertise on equity products regarding regulatory implementation and business change projects.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Qualified as a lawyer in England and Wales or an EU jurisdiction, either newly qualified or junior level.
* Interest in finance, with some exposure to funds, capital markets, structured products, derivatives, or regulation preferred.
* Strong intellectual curiosity to learn about our businesses and identify legal and regulatory issues in new areas.
* Confident in drafting and reviewing legal agreements with attention to detail.
* Organized and proactive in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders globally, including trading, sales, control functions, and legal teams.
