Senior Mechanical Engineer – Aerospace & UAS Systems
Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Backed by recent investment and positioned at the forefront of UK UAS (Uncrewed Aerial Systems) development, the business offers cutting-edge platforms, products, services, and technical support. As part of their next growth phase, we’re looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and integration of mechanical and structural systems within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
You’ll work across the entire product lifecycle, from concept to delivery, and play a central role in delivering critical engineering solutions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:
* Lead and manage small engineering teams to deliver design and integration projects
* Drive the development and testing of mechanical systems for crewed and uncrewed aircraft platforms
* Work across areas including:
* Structural and composite design
* Electro-mechanical and propulsion system integration (electric, ICE, gas turbine)
* Payload/system integration
* Loom and cable routing/clipping
* Design for manufacture and production support
* Plan and execute sub-system and full vehicle test activities
* Support supply chain engagement, manufacturing queries, and configuration management
* Act as a technical mentor for junior staff, offering guidance and on-the-job coaching
* Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers
* Drive best practice in safety, quality, and continuous improvement across your team
* Contribute to recruitment and team planning in collaboration with Engineering Leads
What We’re Looking For
Essential skills & experience:
* Strong background in mechanical or aerospace engineering
* Excellent team leadership and mentoring capabilities
* Demonstrable experience leading technical work within an engineering lifecycle
* Strong communicator with stakeholder-facing experience
* Expert user of CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
* Good working knowledge of design for manufacture (DfM) principles
* Able to carry out and apply first-order calculations to support design choices
* Proficient in technical documentation, report writing, and design review processes
* Experience checking and approving technical reports, drawings, and models
* Familiar with configuration management practices and industry standards (e.g. BS 8888, GD&T)
* Composite structural design, analysis, and testing
* Integration and test of mechanical, electrical, or avionics systems
* Experience with propulsion systems (ICE, electric, small gas turbines)
* Familiarity with 3D printing, CNC machining, or composite manufacturing
* Involvement in production design cycles or aerospace regulatory frameworks
* Exposure to systems engineering processes in an aerospace context
Qualifications & Eligibility
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related scientific field
* Must be a British Citizen or have existing right to work in the UK
* Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (5–10 years UK residency)
* Fluent in written and spoken English
* Able to attend on-site work at least 3 days per week
