2-3 month contract position with a local authority
Summary
* This is a 2-3 month contract position with a local authority, where you will serve as the Council’s lead legal advisor on planning-related matters. Your role will be crucial in handling complex legal agreements associated with major minerals and waste developments. Additionally, you will provide guidance on highway matters and mentor junior legal staff, including supporting the development of a graduate solicitor apprentice.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert legal advice on planning law, including development control, enforcement, and planning policy.
* Draft, negotiate, and review complex legal agreements, particularly those related to minerals and waste developments.
* Advise on highway law and related legal issues.
* Represent the Council in planning inquiries, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
* Collaborate with planning officers, developers, and external stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation.
Qualifications
* Qualified Solicitor or Barrister entitled to practice in England and Wales.
* Strong academic background in law, with a focus on planning or environmental law preferred.
* Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant legal areas.
Experience
* Significant post-qualification experience in planning law, ideally within a local government or public sector setting.
* Specialist knowledge and experience of local authority county planning matters.
* Proven track record of handling complex planning agreements and legal matters.
* Experience advising on highway law is desirable.

* Working hours: 37 hours per week.
